The Usurper

TheUsurper.jpg

Usurper \U*surp”er\, n.
One who usurps; especially, one who seizes illegally on
sovereign power; as, the usurper of a throne, of power, or of
   the rights of a patron.

v.intr.

To seize another’s place, authority, or possession wrongfully. Seize and take control without authority and possibly with force; take as one’s right or possession; “He assumed to himself the right to fill all positions in the town”; “he usurped my rights”; “She seized control of the throne after her husband died”
Some of the world’s most famous men were usurpers. Men such as Napoleon Boneparte and Castellan of Musso. Ancient Rome was riddled with usurpers both successful and unsuccessful such as:
  • Otho – committed suicide
  • Vitellius – killed
  • Vespasian – secured the throne
  • Septimius Severus (193-211) in the Rhine, secured the throne, founder of the Severan dynasty
  • Macrinus (217-e.218) in Syria, former prefect of the Praetorian guard
  • Maximinus Thrax (235-kS.238) in the Rhine, former centurion
  • Gordian I and Gordian II (238) in Africa, suicide and death in battle
  • Philip the Arab (244-kS.249) in the East, former prefect of the Praetorian guard
  • Decius (249-kB.251) in Pannonia
  • Aemilianus (kS.251) in Moesia
  • Valerian (253-e.260) in the Rhine, executed by the Persians
  • Aurelian
  •

The word usurper is a derogatory term, and as such not easily definable, as the person seizing power normally will try to legitimise his position, while denigrating that of his predecessor. The term can also be defined as anyone who forcefully takes power from an established ruler, without consideration to that ruler’s legitimacy. After several years of dominating the forums of Blackplanet in the early 90’s - having orchestrated several melodramatic, daytime soap opera-like episodes of drama between several women I developed a sort of cult following.

Numbers of members on Blackplanet, lurkers and active participants alike, emailed me their private messages of fascination, frustrations, anger, and delight at my musings and episodes. After having several of my member pages deleted do to haters that didn’t have the literary creativity to overcome my vivid, dark, bold, overzealous, chaotic, womanizing cyber persona I adopted the screename, usurper, due to my uncanny ability to usurp various forums, websites, and discussion boards. As the term, usurper, is clearly defined in the aforementioned text of this blog, my cyber persona also endured the same demise. A bold, Shakespearian rise to the top, a terrible, reckless, unadulterated reign and a fitting execution - death by deletion. I’m still a member of Blackplanet but under a much less active membership.

For the sake of this entry, and as not to give any of these discussion boards and forums that banned me the satisfaction of being recognized through my entry, I’ll use fictional names. Realizing my ability to seize the moment by honing in on the character weaknesses of key members I worked my way through AfroAmericana.net. Many of the members of that message board portrayed a persona of being intellectual, inlightened, well read, educated, worldly individuals. However, the downside to this site was the number of members that felt they should be the sole proprieters of posting newsworthy topics. In their posts some of them expressed their thoughts on various subjects as if they were the cutting edge of the Associated Press - dialoguing with each other, and complementing each other for having articulated their topics with authority - utter bullshit.

I decided to drop some newsworthy topics myself, topics that was met with stark hostility as if my material was total lies - fictitious garbage, blah, blah, blah. Sensing that they would make such an arrogant, conceited attempt to deface my post I intentionally left out links to the sources of the information I used to support my topic. They called me all kinds of liars, assholes, losers, and idiots until I replied not only with a more indepth entry, I also included the reputable links. Proving that they were just a bunch of blowhard, anal retentive, indifferent clowns.

To add insult to injury, the administrator and owner of the message board went out of the way to make sure the two beautiful female friends I braught with me to join his message board felt ‘at home’ on his site by continuously sending them private messages full of unecessary flim flam about how to access various forums and how to post. I found this out when one of my friends, the sexier of the two, sent me an instant message telling me how many times this dude kept sending her messages full of irrelevent, indirectly flirtatious private messages. As time went on I gained more and more popularity as well as created a lot of controversy on his site. The administrator became more confrontational as I continued to make his members look like idiots. He made threats of banning me, which is when I decided to let em’ have it with both barrels. He fucked up by confiding in his fame about a recent divorce he went through that kept him preoccupied from maintaining his discussion board. I capitalized on his situation and royally clowned him - banned.

I joined ChocolateWorld.com - the topics were plentiful, well-visited and teaming with active members. The members at this site weren’t on that intellectual blowhard tip but they were plenty aggressive. I pretty much rose through the ranks the same way except the administrator at this site had a soft spot for this one ghetto broad that loved to unprovokingly harrass and insult various members that she didn’t like. I clowned her for being such a hoodrat trick and was thereby banned - the administrator leaving a message saying: “We don’t need any cyberthugs on my board like you.”

Well, by now you know how the others are going to go. I joined several other sites where my cyber persona met the same demise. Not that I was being a cyber bully or anything of the sort. I was met with such hostility and adversarial behavior because I don’t bow and kiss the ground of people that have grown complacent and territorial at a website. People like these place more emphasis and value on their social interactions on the internet than they do in real life. Of course I enjoy interacting with various people on the internet but the internet is just that - the internet. Nothing more.

Many of these people have something very incomplete about their character that leads them to try to recreate their failed and miserable lives on the internet. By developing a network of cyber friends they can establish a false sense of belonging even though these people can disappear at any time due to lost internet connection, server error or a host of other problems. Perhaps it is wrong to usurp these people’s lives but, then again, it should be a wake-up call for these people to seek more tangible means of social interaction than staring at a monitor and tapping away at their keyboards all day and all night.
