The best revenge is success, and Tony Dungy definately had his revenge. Not too long ago there was talk that Bill Parcells was the baddest coach that ever hit the gridiron. Garbage. Even Parcells couldn’t turn around one of the NFL’s greatest football teams, The Dallas Cowboys, back to the days of Jimmy Johnson let alone Tom Landry. Not only did Tony Dungy turn around, The Tampa Bay Buccaneers, quite literally the sorriest ass football team in the history of the NFL, he also went to Indianapolis and turned around the Colts whom themselves weren’t setting any woods on fire before he came along.
How fitting for Tony to get fired from the Tampa Bay Buccaneers after bringing them out of obscurity and going over to the Colts to not only become the first black coach in the history of the NFL to win a Superbowl but also be responsible for making history again by having two black coaches in a Superbowl for the first time in NFL history. As if that wasn’t enough, another one of Tony’s proteges, Mike Tomlin, will be the new head coach for the Pittburgh Steelers. Lovie Smith, also one of Dungy’s former line coaches, all of a sudden is beloved. Chicago hasn’t seen action like that since the days of Mike Ditka. Now Tony Dungy is considered the winningest coach in the NFL. Hell, the brother was the winningest coach in my opinion several years ago but Tampa and I didn’t see it the same way. There was Tony showing off his new crib in Ebony magazine after working for a minute as the head coach of Tampa before getting the boot. Now, I’ll bet Tampa wishes we were seeing eye-to-eye back then. Okay, you won’t be seeing too many more sports entries around here cause that just ain’t my thing. This was more for cultural and historical purposes. Now back to your regularly scheduled programing.
