Double Jeopardy (Part II).

Nick and I had both come to a crossroads in our lives at the same time. I was done with rugby and the self -destructive lifestyle that encompasses the sport. And the romantic greek tragedy that Anandi and I was enthralled in had finally come to a close. Nick had given up doing various types of recreational drugs after a long conversation in the middle of the night on the phone where I convinced him not to commit suicide. He parted ways with his eccentric, deranged, borderline psychopathic ex-dorm roommates, anti-social hermits, and drug suppliers. I parted ways with my criminal-minded, alcoholic, road tripping, violent, thuggish teammates and an assortment of aquaintences that had everything on their minds except graduating from college - at least at that time of their lives. Realizing our college days were coming to a close was a sobering moment for both of us.
Our double dating adventures with Barbara and Anna didn’t quite turn out the way we had originally planned. Oh sure things started out perfectly - We were perfect gentlemen and they were perfect ladies - on our first double date we cooked for the girls at Nick’s place and had them over for dinner. Nick cooked and I tideyed up his apartment. The girls were impressed as we dinned and danced to Nick’s collection of jazz all night. We went to a formal dance on campus and hung out at the Dairy Queen and whatnot. Unfortunately, a snag I began to notice was we had been double dating all this time but we had never gone out on separate dates.
“Man, Romulus, Anna is so hot but she seems to be kind of evasive. What do you think?”
“I’m getting the same kind of feedback from Barbara. We’re going to have to separate these girls and find out where their head is or this is going to turn into some kind of stupid glee club or something.”
I could sense Nick’s eagerness to get in Anna’s panties and I couldn’t blame him. I started daydreaming about Barbara and her big brown eyes, bubbly giggle, and melonous breasts. “It’s time to step up the theme to a more romantic backdrop” I said to Nick. “Let’s take em’ up to the lake.” responds Nick. From the tone of his voice I could tell he was already fantasizing about unhooking Anna’s bra. “That’s a good idea, man” I said. “The weather is perfect and there’s been a full moon the last few nights.” Nick lets out a loud laugh and says “A foursome under the pale moonlight!” Ummmmm, yeah, I’m thinking to myself. “Let me call up the girls” I said. “I’ll set it up for Friday night.”
(Friday, 10:30pm) Barbara and I are sprawled out in the bed of Nick’s truck while Anna’s in the cab with Nick engaged in their usual chat mode. “Look how big the moon looks.” Says Barbara with her head resting on my shoulder and gently bumping her foot against my foot. I put my arm around her shoulder and stroked her head. I was about to make a move when my instincts told me to back off. Still, I motioned my face close to hers but there was no response. My thoughts had been confirmed - she’s not interested, at least not romantically. Nick starts to slowly make his moves on Anna at first but then he begins getting a little more aggressive. Meanwhile, Barbara and I have a front row seat or so to speak. Barbara watches, almost wanting to laugh but not saying anything. I’m shocked myself that he would do such a crazy thing considering both girls weren’t giving us any play. Suddenly, Anna pushes Nick off of her and straightens up her clothes. “Damn.” I said as I lower my head and slap my hand across my face. These girls are joined at the hip and a move like that pretty much killed any chances of action with these girls in the future.
“Ummmm, ” Barbara says in a sarcastic tone “Maybe it’s time for us to head home.” I knocked on the window to get Nick’s attention. He slides the glass back. “What’s up?” He says. “It’s getting kind of late. We need to get back.” I told Nick as if I didn’t see that he had made the biggest fuck up right in front of us. “Cool.” He says.
“Hey, Ro, you busy?”
“Nah, man, what’s up?”
“The rent.”
Being obnoxious is Nick’s way of dealing with the aftermath of a fucked up moment. “Heard from Barbara lately?” He asks but I could tell from the tone of his voice he wasn’t expecting to hear any good news. “Nah, man, I haven’t heard from her since last week.” I said. “You think they’re gay?” Nick asks in that patented sarcastic, stand-up comedian voice. “I don’t think so, Nick.” I said in a tone that suggested he was the culprit. “Hey, I got an idea,” he says with a newfound zeal. “Let’s switch.” He says in an off the wall way. “WHAT?” I said - a little perturbed at first but as the wheels started turning it actually started to sound like a good idea. After all we had nothing to lose. “Okay, check this out, ” I tell him. “Let me handle this. I’ll drive up to their place and talk to them like nothing is up. After all you’re the one that fucked up remember?” There’s a moment of dead air. “Riiiiight,” he says with a hint of embarrassment. “It’s probably best.”
(Saturday morning, 1am) The phone rings. “Sup, Ro, how’s life?” It’s Nick. He sounds like the night I talked him out of committing suicide. “Taking it one day at a time.” I said in as casual and understanding tone possible. “And you?” I asked, hoping this wasn’t going to be one of those times where we have to talk all night - well, all morning. “Barbara broke up with me last night.” He said in a more depressing tone. What the hell could I say to that? He had obviously burned his bridges with both of the girls with that human octopuss stunt he pulled in front of everyone last week. “Well, at least you gave it a shot, man.” I told him. “So, what do you think my chances are with Anna?” See, this is the part of his personality that pisses me off. The part of his personality where he has the uncanny ability to be partly joking and partly serious about any given situation no matter how light hearted or morbid the situation may be. “I’m not sure about that, man” Just as I responded to Nicks’ partially sarcastic question, Anna lifts her head from my chest and looks at me shaking her head with a slight smile on her face.
She had listened to the whole conversation - well, actually, she had no other choice. We were both on the floor in my living room, naked and wrapped up in a quilt. See, what-had-happened was this: My car broke down and the girls didn’t really want to go riding around in Nick’s truck anymore and Barbara was also having car trouble. Anna picked me up and drove me over to Barbara’s and her apartment across town to hang out for a while. Things were still kind of touch and go so I wasn’t about to make any moves with either one of the girls and risk being totally exhiled. “So how’s Barbara and Nick?” I asked Anna as we hummed down the road in her Subaru. “Ummmmm, I’m not sure.” She responds hesitantly. The tone in her voice was enough to let me know shit was already on the rocks with those two. “Maybe you should ask Barbara.” She says in a monotone voice, part of her concentration focused on driving.
“How’s classes going?” I asked in order to kill the tention that was quickly building behind the sudden silence, and to change the subject. “I made A’s on my mid-terms.” She said with a little modest excitement to her voice. “I’ll have to do even better for finals.” For a moment my mind went blank. I would throw a keg party if I could score high C’s low B’s on my mid-terms and this girl is sounding shaky about her grades? “What’s your GPA?” I asked. “Ummmmm,” There she goes with that modesty again. “I think I have about a 4.4 this semester.” I nearly fainted. The four students with the highest GPAs in the whole university were proudly showcased in the university Collet album - the highest GPA out of the four was a 4.1. And the fact that she’s a math major and a computer science minor at that solidified the fact that I’m sitting next to a bonified genius.
There was an uneasiness about the apartment as I entered through the front door. As I walked over to have a seat on the sofa Anna walked towards her bedroom. “Make yourself comfortable.” She says as she nears the doorway to her bedroom. At about the same time Barbara walks out of her bedroom with a backpack stuffed with books. “Hey, Ro, how’s it going?” She says as she plops down on the nearby love seat to check over the contents of her bag. Quite surprisingly she seems to be all cool about no chemistry sparking between us. “Life is good. Talk to Nick lately?” I asked so I could get the truth directly from the horse’s mouth. “Well, I don’t think we’ll be going out for pizza anytime soon.” She says in a sarcastic way. “Oh well.” I said with a smile to let her know there were no hard feelings either way. “It was nice seeing you again, Ro, but I have to catch up with my study group.” She pops up and walks out of the door. Suddenly I’m feeling even more awkward at the fact that I’m alone in the apartment with Anna even though we did go out once on an innocent little date a few days ago.
Never in my life had I been in a predicament like this - I had never even double dated before let alone do a switcheroo. This uncharted territory is unnerving but being around Anna more I’m beginning to notice how more reserved and calm she is. She’s such an easy going spirit, which is such a change from the typical wild, obnoxious, unpredictable, materialistic, immature, frat boy/football player-chasing college girls on campus. Even though her voice is slightly monotone she is very careful with each word that slides across her lips. She’s graceful, quiet and very gentle. Without her glasses you can see the truth and innocence in her eyes. It was obvious she hadn’t let college life affect her in the least - at least as far as not following the crowd and fighting for position in a click while getting dogged out by whomever is the self proclaimed guy on the yard. Anna comes out of her bedroom with two books and a notebook under her arm. “Ready to go?” She asks. “Sure.” I responded. “Oh, I forgot to tell you,” Anna says as she looks around her shoulder to Barbara’s bedroom. “Barbara decided to change her mind about going to the movies tonight. She had to study.” Hmmmmm. This is quite interesting. “If you don’t want to go I can take you home.” She says without even so much as a hint of emotion. “I need to go to the library anyway and do some research.” Damn. What is this girl’s game? Okay, I’m cool with it. “Oh that’s cool,” I tell her. “We can just go to the movies some other time.”
The ride on the way back to my apartment was especially quiet. I couldn’t read this girl at all - no body language or conversation in the least. As she pulled up to my apartment I got the feeling that
this was the end. I psyched myself up to make the best of it and go out with dignity. As I reached for the door handle she put her hand on my thigh. “Bye Romulus.” She says in such a gentle, hesitant voice. Despite her being emotionally distant on the drive back the firmness of her hand suggested otherwise. We kiss - she gently caresses my cheek with her hand. “Do you mind if I come in?” What? Assertiveness like this from such a mild mannered girl? “Sure.” I tell her with a slight smile. This was her plan all along. She never intended to go to the library. Once inside I gesture for her to have a seat on the couch. “Would you like something to drink?” I asked her as I went to my room kicked my shoes off and picked a movie from my collection for us to watch. “No, I’m fine, thanks.” She says in a slightly wavy tone - she’s a little nervous. Eager to get to the bottom of what just happened in the car I rushed back to the living room and sat next to her. “So, tell me what’s on your mind.”
She looks at me with those big brown honest eyes with a slightly embarrassed, modest expression on her face. “Well, I was always attracted to you. I just didn’t act on it at first under the circumstances.” That’s a fair answer but I’m still laughing to myself at this whole situation. The very girl that I thought I’d have chemistry with was the dud while the one I thought I’d have the least in common with was the one that I had chemistry with from the get-go. “Do you mind if I kiss you again?” I asked her with more confidence. She gives this reaction like Adrian in the Rocky movie - she smiles, looks down, then looks back up with a more intense gaze in her eyes. “Sure.” She says. We both leaned forward and kissed tenderly - slowly reaching for each other’s hands. She starts breathing heavier, sucking more aggressively on my tongue. I pick her up while our mouths are still engaged and she wraps her arms around my shoulders. I carefully lay her down on the floor and begin unzipping her pants. She reaches for my buckle, pulls me closer and unzips my pants. “Hold on just a second.” I tell her. I turned the CD player on and selected Enya, then I ran back to my bedroom to get a large black quilt and spread it on the floor.
As I spread the quilt out on the floor she quickly pulls off her sweater and kicks off her shoes. As she stoops down to the quilt I helped her with her pants and unhooked her bra. As we restart with intense kissing she helps me pull my jeans and boxers off. My dick flops out, making an almost drum beat sound as it bounces off of my stomach. She grabs it - the stark contrast of her thin, pale fingers against my dark brown dick fascinates her momentarily as she gently strokes it. I peeled her tiny panties off and helped her take off her bra. Her nipples are a bright, faint pinkish brown color - tiny like the tips of crayons. I gently massage her clitoris with my middle finger as I switch from deep French kisses to suckling on her tiny nipples - erect like tiny bullets. She lays flat on her back on the floor next to me and grabs my ass - pulling me - gesturing me to get on top. As I get on top I take her left leg and place it on my shoulder. Entering her is a struggle - her entry way is very small, so I gently gyrate my hips and partially rotate my shaft to ease my rod into her tiny pussy. “Uuuunnnnnnn” She moans as a look of pain and ecstasy abruptly comes across her face. As her walls begin to give in more I increase my thrust. She deflects my thrust with her hands holding me back from entering her more aggressively. I can tell from her uneasy, awkward body language this is her first time being with a black man. I restrained myself as throughout our first attempt at lovemaking seemed difficult for her.
“How was it for your first time?” I asked her. She understood where I was coming from - she grabbed my dick and held it firmly like the handlebar grip on a motorcycle. She stared at the length that surpassed her hand then she gave a firm squeeze to see trying to touch the palm of her hand with her fingers. “Wow. Definitely different.” She said as she layed down next to me and began rubbing her hands up and down my abs.
